How to Make Extra Money as a School Teacher

Classroom with teacher and kids

earn extra as a teacherI am always interested to hear about new ways folks are finding to make extra money online today. Add to that list: teacher lesson plans.

I found this story on Huff Post – about a elementary school teacher who found an online community where she could sell her teaching plans to other teachers. The site is called TeachersPayTeachers.com.

The teacher—Donna Jump—has so far sold over 160,000 lesson plans for about $8 each (I'll quickly do the math on that one for you: 160k x $8 = $1.28 million). Crazy huh?!

According to the site's founder, Paul Edelman, Jump is the superstar. He said there are two other teachers who have made over $300k and 23 others who had over $100k through selling their plans online.

Here's Jump's story:

What are you doing at your current job that you could side hussle?

Who would have thought that a teacher could make over a million dollars selling online lesson plans? But, this just goes to show the power of an online community and meeting a need.

When I hear stories like this one – I always get to thinking “what can I be doing at my job that I could do as a side job?

With costs for everything rising – and incomes staying stagnant – I think this is an important question to ask. More and more folks are gonna need to increase their incomes to keep up. But, it doesn't have to be drudgery or take a lot of work.

I'm blessed that I can do my full-time job on the side for extra income. But, what if you are a mail-room clerk. Or assemble widgets at ABC Factory?

This is probably where you need to get creative. I do think that everything we get payment for involves some skill-set that not everyone has. For the assembler – who likely has a more mechanical mind – it could be working to repair things for folks. And for the mail-room clerk, perhaps a professional organizer could be the gig?

Are you doing this? And, what types of things are you doing at your current job that you are turning into profit on the side? Or could?

While you're making some extra money, here's a great way to save on your cell phone bill.
