Hey thrifty friends! We are excited to announce our 3rd Annual Goodwill Smackdown Challenge!
Here's how it all started:
A couple years ago, our man Charlie had the brilliant idea of holding a thrift store challenge where each participate (three thrifty guys and a thrifty gal), would purchase a “valuable” item at their local Goodwill store which they believed might turn a profit. The person with the highest profit would end up winning the Challenge.
Here's how this year's contest will go down:
- Each participate (Charlie, Laurie and Aaron) will have the option of purchasing 3 items. One in clothing, one in households and another in one other category.
- Must list the items for sale on Craigslist or Ebay.
- The highest percentage of profit, wins (of the 3 products)
- Basically, this is thrift store flipping. Participants have from today (9/9) til Wednesday,
September 23.September 30. We'll list all of our items and what they sold for the following week. The winner of the Challenge will get everyone's profits to donate to their charity of choice.

We are giving away a $50 gift card to Goodwill to one random commenter on any Goodwill Smackdown post. Must comment by 9/25 10/2 at midnight (CST) to be entered. Sorry, US residents only. If you don't have a nearby Goodwill store, we can provide another gift card of your choice.

My husband and I like to look for treasures at thrift stores, and we do occasionally resell. But the search is the fun part. :) Good luck!

We love our local Goodwill, found a full set of golf clubs for my 13 year old to use in Special Olympics for just $1 per club!

Sounds like fun! Fingers crossed to win. Goodwill is the way to shop, for our large family. Kids grow out of clothes so quickly.
One time I bought a pair of pants at the Goodwill, brought them home, washed them and when I put them on, I found $30 in the pocket!! Yay!
