Where to Get Free Magazines, Online Courses and Letters from the President

Aaron AvatarEveryone likes freebies. Here's a few places around the web where you can get free things and keep a few more bucks in your pocket! We hope to continue this feature every month. Please let us know if you have found any other free stuff around the web or elsewhere.

Free magazines

I love flipping through different magazines. Being visually inclined and a golfer, I love looking at good design magazines and golf magazines. Here's a cool website called Magastack that I just found out about that has a ton of well-known magazines online that you can peruse – for free.

If you enjoy reading digital books, Amazon actually has a good number of free ebooks that you can download for free.

Free elearning

Online education is growing more and more popular – and I hope it continues to do so, to offset the obscene costs of college. Khan Academy is well-known for offering free online education.

Free DVDs

A sister site of the infamous, PaperBackSwap website, SwapaDVD.com has over 250,000 DVDs that are available for swapping. The only catch here is that you need to earn credits through swapping some of your old DVDs that you don't want anymore.

Free documentaries

I'm a big fan of documentaries. I was very pleased to happen upon this site called DocumentaryHeaven.com that holds a bunch of movies you can view for free.

Free greetings from the President

When I was younger, I remember my grandma getting a letter from the President of the United States when she turned 80. I thought that was pretty cool. Little did I know, the White House sends out greetings to newlywed's, births and retirements with a simple request.

Updated 7/27/17: Since President Trump took office, this practice has ceased.

What are some other cool places you've found free stuff this month?

  1. We have tons of DVD’s we have to get rid of. I was wondering if I could do that.

I’ve accidentally bought a few movies from RedBox because I forgot to turn them in, so now I know how to get rid of them.

    Thanks for the tips.

    • Raza – yeah, SwapaDVD would be a good place to offload some of those DVDs and in return you could get some more that you like.

  2. For some reason, I’ve started receiving a couple of different free magazines. I didn’t subscribe to them and friends didn’t gift them to me. I can only assume that my name got sold to a company and they are sending free issues in an effort to get me to subscribe later. It’s nice to see these other sites you list. I’ll definitely visit a couple.

    • Hm. I think a lot of magazines make more money from their advertisers vs subscribers – so the more “subscribers” they can tell the advertisers they have – the better for them (can charge more for the ads).
