For me summer time is the time of the year when I take most of my vacation (like most people). I like to take advantage of the nice weather and get outdoors. Our family is always looking for new fun and creative ways to spend quality time with our loved ones. At the same time get out of the house and not have to spend a lot of money. Here are a few ideas for cheap summer fun with your family.
- Go camping. In the state I live in, one-night campsites at our state parks ranges from $7-$25/day. I love going camping with my family and sleeping outdoors, especially when it's cool outside. We have fun roasting smores, making pancakes over a campfire griddle, and brewing coffee over the campfire. Very few things top fresh campfire brewed coffee.
- Turn your backyard into a water park. In the summer we like to turn on our backyard sprinklers and run thru the sprinklers with the kids (Costs maybe 50 cents for 30min). On top of that if you have a slide in you backyard then get a hose and run water down the slide makes for your very own water slide. We also like to have water gun fights and throw water balloons at each other.
- Go to the library. Go with your family to the library for some quality quiet time, read some books, magazines, or check out some videos or maybe some frugal books.
- Go to the park. Do a search on https://maps.google.com and search: YOUR_CITY_NAME, STATE_NAME parks (example: Fargo, ND parks). Go visit a park you haven't visited before and a lot of the parks have different reviews of the various parks in your area. That will you and your family some fun ideas to go visit new places and its free.
The summertime is one of the best times of the year to have fun with your family. It doesn't always cost money and you don't always need to drive a long way. Be creative. What other ideas do you have?
